Angie’s Red Velvet Cookies

January 30, 2014 by Angie 1 Comment

Angie's Red Velvet CookiesHappy Valentine’s Day to you….I wish you a week filled with love, chocolate, cookies, candy and hugs! These are great cookies, soft yet chocolatey…sweet but not to sweet. Hide them please, so I will not eat another one. We all love red velvet at our house. I guess it is a southern thing? Right? At Christmas that was the cake of choice by all, each and every year. Never the less we all love red velvet. You see red velvet is really just chocolate hidden with the red well…it is. I think these are great cookies for a Valentine’s Day treat. Such a beautiful color. This is a easy yet wonderful recipe. I know you will love them.

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

3 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 1/2 sticks butter
3 large eggs
1 oz red food coloring
2 tablespoons milk or cream
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 box sifted 10x powdered sugar ~ save till end to roll cookies
Ingredients for cookies
Line baking sheets with parchment paper, preheat oven to 350. Sift all dry ingredients together, then set aside. Cream butter and regular sugar until light and creamy. Add the eggs one at the time beating well after each egg, add the food color, milk and vanilla. Mix this until all is incorporated. Add the flour until just mixed in then add chocolate chips. Do not over mix cookies will be tough, scoop with a cookie scoop then roll in powdered sugar and coat really well. I dust the top of the cookie with a little more….place on the lined baking sheets and bake for 10-14 minutes.
