Day 8 and 9 of Rhine River Cruise

November 22, 2013 by Angie Leave a Comment

Angie's Rhine River Trip now we are in Amsterdam
We have left the Viking Ship, I am so sad this part of the trip is over. Now we are on land the remainder of our trip. We are in the city of Amsterdam. Not, sure just what I was expecting Amsterdam to be like? But, it is a lovely city with all the little houses and the canals. I guess with the legalization of pot and girls for hire, I was expecting Amsterdam to be a crazy party city…but it is so not that….at all. Really it isn’t they roll up the streets quiet early here. We took a river cruise down the canals and they shared with us all about the city. Yes, we took another boat ride. It is such a lovely place! A great way to see the charming city.

Amsterdam Market

We went to some markets and they had such wonderful cheese, produce, flowers, mushrooms, oysters, meats, breads, pastries and hats….yes hats!

Amsterdam Market

They had so many different mushrooms and believe me they had several different venders just offering mushrooms. I have never seem so many in one place and so many different varieties.
Amsterdam Market

Isn’t it a beautiful market? I wish we had markets like this here. That is one thing they have us beat on here in the states is these wonderful fresh markets. I had the best time looking and sampling all the wonderful things.

Amsterdam Museums

We spend half of one day visiting the wonderful museums. The Rijksmuseum has been closed for the last 10 years for renovation and has just reopened. We spent a good part of half a day here and I will say it is worth a trip to see. They have many things other than just art. A lovely museum with many things to see and learn about….they have doll houses that have better furnishings than my own home. A library I only wish I could have….well if it was cookbooks. They have many painting by the great Masters. This is such a great museum, beautiful building and wonderful collections.

Amsterdam Museums

After all that we had to get a snack and enjoy a little time to take it all in. I did enjoy many new things here, dutch pancakes, sausage and their cheese.

Amsterdam Coffee Break
Amsterdam is a quaint place, I hope you get a chance to visit.
I would definitely recommend visiting Amsterdam.
