Isn’t this a great ginger bread house? See I have this sweet, wonderful girl in my life her name is Hannah. I was not lucky enough to have a little girl of my own, she is my God child. When she was just a weee little thing she and I started making gingerbread houses. Each year after Thanksgiving we would talk about our upcoming house building day. We would go over what kind of house she wanted to make. I would let her pick the type house, the pattern the candy or decorations. Each year Hannah’s houses got much better, each year the houses would get more complicated and more difficult! We would spend the whole day together baking and constructing her house. When we would get done we would be exhausted and the kitchen floor would be full of sugar so that when you walked it would crunch. But, oh goodness what wonderful memories we have made together. We would laugh, tell stories, listen to music, eat candy and have the best time together.
Now keep in mind she made the whole house her self isn’t that great. I am sure when she is my age she will be able to make anything. She is the one that took these pictures too! Amazing isn’t it, Hannah is a senior in high school. Next year she goes off to college. The only sad part is she will more than likely move to some other city to attend the college she has chosen….but little does she know I am going to come visit….heee heeee can’t get rid of me that easy….missy!!
Building a gingerbread house is a wonderful Christmas tradition to start. Each year they improve, promise they do but most importantly it is fun activity with the children, teaching them so many wonderful things. Makes your home smell so wonderful and inviting too. So, I have passed my love of three things on to sweet girl, baking, making gingerbread houses, and photography. Love you dear Hannah !!
This is Hannah and I at a party together. If I remember correctly we baked 5 cakes for this party…wow This is now above and then below when she was four! Wow how the time flies……
Tomorrow I will post the house I made for this year. I will also post my recipe for ginger bread dough and instructions.
