This is one of the Christmas traditions at our house. The day after Thanksgiving we decorate the house for the holiday season. I always turn on the XM to the Christmas station oh I love it!! LOUD too ! Then I put on a large pot of the Christmas spiced tea. But, it is really not even a tea it is more like a mulled spice fruit juice drink and we all love it. Kinda taste like a Glogg if you have ever had that but not so harsh….try it you will love it. I put it in a percolator coffee pot and the whole house smells so wonderful. I serve it at parties too and everyone seems to really enjoy it. I got this recipe over 30 years ago from my sweet cousin Jan…thanks! We love it and think of you each time I make it. We all got so in the spirit after the tree and all the decorations where up we watched the polar express again and drank hot cocoa with marshmallows oh yum!! Saturday we will make gingerbread houses…get ready !
Christmas Spiced Tea
2 1/4 cups pineapple juice
2 cups cranberry juice
1 3/4 cups cold water
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1 tablespoon whole cloves
3 sticks of cinnamon, broken up
I make this tea in a coffee percolator, put juices and water in the bottom part. Then put the sugar and spices in the coffee part or basket area. Turn on the percolator and when it is finished perking it is ready not long at all. Your wonderful tea is ready. Now these percolators are not expensive I got mine for 12.00 and have used this silly thing so much I went and got a big boy and now make 2 batches at the time. But, once you use it for spiced tea coffee does not taste the same…you will have to use it just for spiced tea. I have made this on the stove top and it does turn out nicely too just get a really large pot and place all ingredients in the pot and simmer on a very low heat until sugar melts, when all is nice and hot about 20 minutes.

This sounds yummy, but as someone with Swedish ancestry I can assure you this bears litttle resemblence to Glögg which typically contains: alcohol (wine, whiskey, brandy a combination), cardamon pods, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, orange zest, sugar, dark raisins and blanched slivered almonds. Before serving a quantity is poured into a heat-proof container and lit and drunk once the flames die out. Try some and you will note the vast difference between the two concoctions.
