When the weather turns cool outside, I love to have oatmeal. I prefer the steel cut oats to any other kind they have a nutty flavor …but it takes so long to cook. I have started cooking it in the crock pot or slow cooker. I put it in the night before and it is ready when we get up in the morning. They are wonderful nice hot, creamy and oh so good. This is a great item to make ahead when having company. Put it on before you go to bed and it is done when you get up and let everyone place their own toppings on their oatmeal. Oatmeal is so good for you. Try it and you will love it !!
Creamy Slow Cooker Oatmeal
2 cups steel cut oats
2 cups whole milk
6 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup brown sugar
I brush the slow cooker with the butter. Add the oatmeal, milk, water salt and vanilla to slow cooker. I turn the slow cooker on just before going to bed on the low setting or warm setting I have one that has each setting. Right before serving I add the brown sugar and stir to mix well. I do place the left overs in the refrigerator and you can reheat them in the microwave.
dash of heavy cream
These are my favorites to add but others at my house love these combos
cinnamon ~ 1 teaspoon for whole batch
I get my oatmeal at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. Most all grocery stores sale the steel cut form oatmeal. This makes 9 cups of oatmeal. I do cut it down by half it is just for me.
