Bread Pudding with Wild Turkey Sauce

July 12, 2012 by Angie 2 Comments

Bread Pudding with Wild Turkey Sauce This recipe is one I have had and used for many years. Like 20 years…yea, like a long time. I took a cooking class from a young man named Glen Butler. I loved taking classes from him ~ why….he was a wonderful cook and a wonderful entertainer. He had such fun stories to tell. He at one time worked at the Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. I have tried many recipes and this by far is the best. It is best right out of the oven served hot. No…I am not one that really cares for bread puddin, just not but dang this is really wonderful and the sauce it soooooo good on any thing even cardboard. The Commander’s Palace cookbook recipe is a little different from this one? huh think, think…huh wonder why? But, I know for a fact he worked there for a good long while? So, I know he would have had the real McCoy and dang his is better….so I bet his is the real deal.

Bread Pudding

1 loaf of french bread
1 quart of whipping cream
6 large eggs
2 cups of sugar
2 tablespoons of pure vanilla
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup of golden raisins

Break or cut bread into cubes. Bread should be a few days old or you can firm up a fresh loaf in a warm oven until dry. I take a fresh loaf cut into cubes and toast. Then soak bread in cream for a while. Beat eggs add sugar, vanilla and raisins, stir well. Pour egg mixture over the bread and cream mixture. Pour the melted butter in the bottom of a thick baking pan add the bread pudding mixture to the pan. Bake at 350 for one hour or until firm.

Wild Turkey Sauce

1 stick of butter
1 cup of sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup of Wild Turkey

Cream butter and sugar and heat in a double boiler until very hot and well dissolved. Rapidly whip in beaten egg to avoid curdling. Let cool, add Wild Turkey to taste. Pour sauce over the hot bread pudding. Great to add a good vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Note ~ I do not like raisins so I leave them out sorry raisins 😮

I hope you enjoy this is a wonderful comforting dish…pleasing everyone even those like me that do not like bread pudding. Great to make a head for a large group. I like to bake it in individual dishes for a fancy dinner party giving a little better presentation. Enjoy…this is a great one!
