Homemade Doughnuts….chocolate glazed, plain glazed and powdered sugar

October 22, 2011 by Angie 1 Comment

These donuts are amazing…and relatively east to make. I have made them many times and in a bread machine easy peasy! Try them and you will love them. Then with the left overs you make bread puddin ~ Oh My Goodness ~ Amazing !!

Yeast Doughnuts

1 3/4 cups whole milk
2 eggs
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg~ I grated a little fresh
23 oz King Arthur all ~ purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons yeast
peanut oil for frying

I made the dough in the bread machine ~ this makes this amazingly EASY!! Really does, try it!!

I dumped all the wet ingredients in 1st ~ milk, eggs, butter, sugar, salt, vanilla nutmeg, flour and then yeast last. Turn on the dough setting after it is done let it stay in the machine and rest after it is finished . I let mine stayed in additional 30 minutes. Then the dough is nice and fluffy completely risen to the top of the window.

I flour the counter well and roll out and then cut with a doughnut cutter and then lay on a parchment paper lined baking sheet dusted with flour. I let rise another 1 hour.

I fry the doughnuts in peanut oil at 360 turning until they are nice and brown. Once they are done I dip them in icing.

Chocolate Glaze

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 oz bakers semi sweet chocolate

2 cups 10X powdered sugar

In a medium sauce pot add the butter, milk, and vanilla and heat until melted, stirring to keep from burning. Once all is melted and shinny. Sift the powdered sugar into the chocolate, stirring vigorously until all mixed together. Once all mixed you can place over a bowl of warmer water while dipping doughnuts this keeps in glaze from setting up. Dip all doughnut immediately.

Doughnut Clear Glaze

1/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups 10x powdered sugar

In a medium sauce pot add milk, vanilla and powdered sugar and heat, stirring continually until combined and smooth. Place glaze on a bowl of warm water to keep warm and from setting up. Dip all doughnuts in glaze and drain on a wire rack for a few minutes and then serve warm.
