Well….in addition to the macaron adventure. There is many other highlights we had on our New York trip. One wonderful thing we did was the High Line Park we all loved it!!
This is a such a great way to spend an afternoon in New York. See we have done all the usual things at one time or another over the years. We all wanted to do things we have never done before. This is a park that is in the Chelsea area of town. This was an old elevated abandon train line. They would bring in goods for the warehouses to use. This train line has not been used in a long time so they made it into a park. You can walk for a little over one mile and it is beautifully landscaped and you can see the New York skyline it is amazing!! They do have a few vendors selling ice cream and snow cones. It is right next to the Chelsea Market which is another wonderful thing to do while in this area of town. Chelsea Market use to be the factory that made Oreo Cookies…yum! There is so many dee~licious places to eat at Chelsea Market one we love is ~
The lobster rolls at The Lobster Place are so good ! We love these, we went 2 times just to get the lobster rolls. Great lunch spot!! There is so many great places to eat here. You name and they have it.
Another great thing we did was go to Chamber Street Park in the World Trade Center area. We got to see the new buildings they are building at the World Trade Center site. Inside the building they have a huge window you can look down and see everything going on down below interesting to be able to see it all going on and be right there. We had our cousin take us up to the roof of his building and see the amazing view WOW !! Here are some of the shots!!
Great views on all four sides
Another thing we did that was really interesting we have not done before is go to The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This church was so large and so very beautiful. Next time I am in New York I would like to go to a service here. I did not get many pictures due to it being so dark and hot the day we went. Such a shame mad at my self over this…my brain was not working it was just too hot to think. This is the largest church I have been in the United States it was sad to me to see that we do not take better care of such a beautiful church. So, so sad!! An amazing land mark for New York! It is the largest in the U.S. and fourth largest in the world. They never finished the church and they had a fire a few years back. They do not have any pews either no air or was not working. If I had the money I would sure finish this beautiful place. Freshen up the grounds and make it look heavenly! Tommy could build it for me too!! See great idea! Right? Just what he needs something else for me to boss him around over….heee heee:O) This would be a great location for a school. Send your donations today and I will get right on it once we get to the million $$$ mark. All kidding aside I do wish someone would repair this beautiful place.
Such a huge place you really have to be there to get just how large the place is…..I do wish I had taken more photos all the more reason to return. The stain glass windows are so very beautiful! Go when you go to New York it is well worth the visit. Recommended by me! I have a feeling you will feel just as I do amazing place lets fix it and take care of it!!!
We got another Lobster roll at the Brooklyn Flea market on Sunday and it was really good. Cheaper too! We got the strawberry lemonade it was sooo good we had to go and get another before we left, great lemonade on such a hot day. They had many wonderful food venders at the market. Shake Shack and the MeatBall Shop are on other post. Another great foodie place was
Eataly what an amazing food place oh dear me you could spend a day in here! This is in the Flatiron area yummy!! They have 6 restaurants inside the market one for pasta one for pizza on and on you can buy things and even have them cook it. Wonderful place! Great place to eat and get a beer they have a beer garden…do come here if in New York. They also have a large wine selection, coffee and gelato oh my go and you will see.
The parks in the area are so nice, much nicer than the last time we visited. Very clean and well kept….lovely!
We did get some of the best chocolate cake ~ well to me it was not really cake at all. There is a place they claim to have the “Best Chocolate Cake in the World” that is even their name ~ Yep it is, so we had to try it and it is more like a meringue with chocolate mousse in between the layers and chocolate ganache on top. Was really pricey for this little bit of cake too! It was good but I would not say it is the best in New York or much less the whole world? Pretty big claim ~ But got me to buy it so it worked right?
We even did a good bit of shopping and got many new things for Thomas. He is the fashioneassta of the group. He wanted to go to Jay Lindeberg, Nike, Ben Sherman, Brooks Brothers and Club Monaco. He has been working all summer and had money burning a hole in his pocket.
One place we did eat we all loved was the Buttermilk Channel an amazing place, great hostess, great waiter, great food, great space cannot get much better than that. The whole package in dinning world. I would for sure go back there. Breakfast is their thing and we even went late night like 10:30 p.m. and they had a full house. I would go for breakfast next time….I think?
We had the salad with duck, butter lettuce with green goddess dressing and duck cracklings. We had another salad with warm lamb, black olive croutons and soft farm cooked eggs. I had the New England Hake which is a fish with fresh beans fava and pole beans white and green with a little cherry chile peppers was very tasty and Thomas had the skirt steak and loved it. He gobbled it down quit quickly. Tommy had the lamb he loves those greek dishes you know. A great find!!
We went to dinner with Heather a dear friend we have known since she was little. Had a great time getting to see her. Got to meet many of her friends they had many suggestions for things for us to see and do while in New York. We got eat at yet another great place called Elsewhere…yummy! We loved the seabass with polenta licked the plate. Had a great bottle of wine.
Now there is a must each time we go to New York for three different places… well two fell off our list due to very poor quality this time but one ~ one is still going strong and we have been coming here for 12 years or more and still love it….Sullivan Street Bakery !! They call it “Grandaisy” Bakery now ~ not sure why but to us it will always be Sullivan’s on Sullivan Street oh well.
We love the pizza bianca bread it is so so good the boys eat all the others not me the tried and true ~ they get the onion, mushroom, potato and tomato all of them or what ever they have at the time we stop by it is all good! Any of the bread is good. We did get to another place we like that is still pretty tasty, you have to get pizza while in New York right?
We went to Enoteca Otto Pizzeria and got a few pies my choice is arugula and prosciutto which was really good always a great place to go for the pizza, pasta and gelato. This trip our waiter was simply the worst can’t believe he made the cut there? One of the worst ever. I will say we ate at many places and some I am not even listing due to the length of the post now ~ oh dear me… I have put New York on my Bucket List, I would love to rent an apartment for a whole month just go eat, shop and see the museums and enjoy the life! Enjoyed the week again ! Great place to visit! The Macaron’s are the best at Bouchon see my other post on these little wonders! I think we made it to 7 different macaron places while in town. I still dream of the raspberry yogurt macaron so wonderful and the vanilla too ! yummy Tommy says they will ship ~ lets call them NOW!!
